At the end of October 2012, Microsoft released ‘Windows Phone 8’ to coincide with the launch of Windows 8, the latest operating system released by Microsoft. The phone software was introduced to compete with the strong market positions of other competitors in the mobile phone industry; Apple’s IOS and Google’s Android system. The system is being used by Nokia, Samsung and HTC devices, creating severe competition for Android.

The phone broke onto our televisions with many advertisements showing your phone. Ultimately, the main difference between your system and others is the enlarged ’tiles’ that fill the screen and the fact that it can be customized to anyone’s preference. However, when I first saw the phone, I was not impressed; I didn’t see how it was better than the iPhone or more attractive. Many people I have spoken to agree, insisting that advertising does not serve its purpose; to entice consumers to buy your phone, which is fascinating as the phone seems to be aimed at the younger generation. Instead, I think it shows Microsoft lagging behind its main rivals; They should have introduced this system at least 2 years ago if they wanted to develop brand loyalty the way Apple has, as if at the time Apple was gaining momentum, if Microsoft offered an alternative that would match the iPhone but to a reasonable price. cheaper price, they would have a great advantage. Now the problem is that many people are hooked on iPhones or Android phones, making it extremely difficult for Microsoft to build a large customer base. Of course, some consumers may be tired of the iPhone and may want to try Windows Phone, but will it be enough to allow Microsoft to create a more level playing field in the mobile phone market? I have my doubts.

Microsoft has not introduced something completely innovative and new, it has only introduced a similar alternative. If the phone was significantly better than iPhone or Android phones, you could see that it would have an impact on the market. The phone has only been out for a few months, so it will be interesting to see if sales pick up speed or if it is far from the success Microsoft is hoping for. The latter is what I have my money on.

Fundamentally, Microsoft has had Windows Phones in circulation in the past, but they never took off like other brands have. It is a missed opportunity for Microsoft because they have introduced the new phone too late. The other phone brands have such strong brand loyalty and because the phone is not superior to the latest phones, it makes it even more difficult for the brand to progress. Compatibility with Windows 8 PC software is smart, but it still doesn’t make it stand out, as consumers need to have Windows 8 software, many of whom do not currently have it. Also, it is debatable whether the software is appropriate for desktops and laptops, further hampering its potential.
