My latest Commander project may be a brutal Krenko deck, Mob Boss Commander. Admittedly, I’m not normally a fan of red with CMDR, but this general screams fun and shows what red can be capable of. I’m producing this post to help supplement a deck tech video I’d like to do on. Unfortunately, being in Japan makes obtaining cards like Brightstone Ritual very difficult. In the meantime, I plan to talk about my views during the construction of the Commander Krenko, Overseer of the Mafia deck.

As soon as you build Commander decks, one of the essential questions you may ask yourself may be what the point of your own deck will be. What the hell is your route besides design emphasis? In this build, I’ve selected a combination creature strategy where combat damage isn’t counted on to win.

Creature-combo is a great option for this general. The hyper aggressive because or full pressure seriously isn’t effective with multiplayer formats and often has early small impression spells to replace high impact control spells especially with Krenko, Mob Boss you’ll notice Krenko’s command in addition to the Goblin Fodder type inclusions. My own preliminary research on the deck showed behaviors in the direction of most of these cards, which developed a deck that sacrificed consistency for additional power in the first few turns.

Another reason for the creature combo may be the lack of accessible quality red scouts for your build. Shortly after searching for a compiler online, I found very few Goblins that were strong enough or synergistic enough to help with CMDR.

The sixteen biggest Goblins I have found so far: Kiki-Jiki, Mirro Breaker, Goblin Lackey, Goblin Sharpshooter, Goblin Ringleader, Goblin Matron, Goblin King, Skirk Prospector, Goblin Chieftan, Skirk Fire Marshal, Sige-Gang Commander, Goblin Welder , Goblin Double, Tuk Tuk Scrapper, as well as Goblin Chirurgeon include the best goblins in magic… I couldn’t find any other Goblins that were strong enough to compete in CMDR.

With Red’s minimal access to quality creatures, Red requires great service controlling enchantments as well as strong artifacts to help make up for this gap with color durability.

When this deck is going to be profitable, it needs to be resistant to sweepers, efficient counterspells, and ultimately winning the battle of card effectiveness. My own alternative was to make any deck where I won an EDH game by tightening up opposing players and reducing their chances of casting solid spells and buffing their boards.

Constricting spells like Blood Moon, Magus with the Moon, Stranglehold, Static Orb, and Winter Orb should work well.

The next question of how to win the possibility of a place on the board. You see, Red is basically unplayable for everything: he’s lacking in awesome creatures, he has a horrible tutor effect, plus he doesn’t draw. And needless to say, my existing question in this Commander deck may be how to overcome most of these flaws in addition to increasing the cantrip effect to help win games where stalling occurs.

For drawing we will include Wheel of Fortune, Slate of Ancestry, Memory Jar and Mind’s Eye. These alternatives are usually fine (with the exception of Mind’s Eye, I think it’s slow), but we want much more. However, many of these alternatives are drastically underpowered. Should we also include spells like Wild Guess? Am I allowed to create a circumstance where Wild Guess makes the cut in this ruthless format? Cards as unplayable as Wild Guess are generally not considered appropriate for this format, however, this red is the one at hand. Coupled with the lack of options for strong spells, I am pushed to use underwhelming spells for small incremental positive gains.

After discovering drwa, we need to add some support spells that allow Krenko, Mob Boss to shine. These support spells allow Haste – Ancient Elixir, Mana Rush – Mana Vault, etc., as well as having influences like Furnace of Wrath and Goblin Bombardment. I don’t have all the answers right now, though after we make it happen I’ll be sure to update everyone on our progress.

If you have practically any suggestions for cards, or maybe decide to comment on my assembled model, please check it out! My partner and I look forward to having any conversation with everyone.
