I have been introducing my auto dealers to a mobile product that I picked up that shows college floor mats. As distributors are eager to increase revenue and will try anything new; the program has been a sensation. There are so many college and professional soccer fans out there and they love embodying their team. Face it, we all have cars and we mostly have second rate auto mats. I live on the coast, so we are constantly tracking something in the car. These college mats collect the sand and I scoop it out and empty it.
I’m a fan of the University of South Carolina and I live in Charleston. Carolina mats are the best sellers along with Clemson mats. But what surprises me is the request for mats from the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. There is such a move from the north to live in South Carolina. But they still love their teams. I even sold an Ohio state mat the other day. Who would have thought!
The popularity is also manifested in professional mats. You can’t throw a rock without hitting a Dallas Cowboys fan. I myself am a fan of the New Orleans Saints. Come on Saints! It was tough spending twelve years in Atlanta with the Falcons there, but we’re talking about loyalty to your team. Their is a drive to win teams when they are doing well. I think all sports marketing works that way. Just look at Miami with Lebron on the way. T-shirts, mugs and, above all, jerseys are flying off the rack. I need to put down the Miami Heat mat.
With the football time of the year just around the corner, sales should be good. I know I can’t wait. Since the United States expects the home team to make it through the season and win every game, we all know they won’t. The start of the football season is a special time for all sports fans. We got together with our friends and started talking about the first year staff and if they will be a factor for the team this year. The scary part is just hoping that our second year players don’t have the second year curse. Being a Carolina fan we look for any excuse as to why we are not playing at the top of our game. Fantasy football fans are a fun bunch. I’ve played before and it’s fun but man are you glued to the ticker at the bottom of your TV screen? If the Green Bay Packers scoring was your player running the ball or passing for a touchdown? That’s what makes fantasy football fun. We drink a lot of alcohol on draft night, but I’m not going to tell you anything you don’t already know. It’s fun to play with acquaintances.
